It all started back in Varsity, at the Durban University Of Technology. I remember I had these white All-Stars that my granny bought for my metric dance, which happened to be the only pair of sneakers I had at that time.
One Sunday, I was washing them and noticed that the color wasn't looking so great. So I decided to take acrylic paint and doodled all over them, and then wore them on campus the next day. Everyone loved them!
From there, I started getting orders to paint sneakers, and from there I started doodling on T-shirts and selling them. The other day my late brother Mandla came back with a sewing machine from his work—he said "my boss was throwing some stuff away; I thought you might wanna use this." At that time, I had never used a sewing machine before! But as soon as he gave it to me, I took one of my old jean pants… disassembled every single piece… sewed it together again… practiced with new material until I got it right! Because I was a graphic design student at the time, learning how to sew wasn't difficult for me because already had an eye for design.
